Lecture 2 on the Animal Kingdom with a detailed explanation of Cnidaria for Class 11 NEET Biology students on Unacademy NEET LIVE DAILY by Sachin Sir.
In spite of differences in structure and form of different animals, there are fundamental features common to various individuals in relation to the arrangement of cells, body symmetry, nature of coelom, patterns of digestive, circulatory or reproductive systems. These features are used as the basis of animal classification.

CNIDARIANS | Biology Animation
For today’s topic, we are going to talk about the “Cnidarians”.
What comes first to your mind when the beauty of the ocean is talked about? The fishes? the blue horizon? ah yes, the corals of course! But they’re not rocks though, they’re living beings too! Let’s find out more about what they can do.
Corals are part of the animal classification called the Cnidarians (NeeDaryans). They are water animals that have a simple body with a mouth opening.
Most of them have stinging cells on tentacles around the mouth to catch prey. Stinging? Corals don’t sting as far as we know.
That’s because cnidarians not only include corals but some of the marine life too!

Cnidaria is a phylum containing over 10,000 species of animals found exclusively in aquatic and mostly marine environments. Their distinguishing feature is cnidocytes, specialized cells that they use mainly for capturing prey.
The Fascinating World of Cnidarians
The phylum Cnidaria contains such creatures as jellyfish, anemones, siphonophores and corals. Together, they consist of around 13,000 living species surprisingly simple, yet beautiful organisms. The importance of these cnidarians cannot be understated. Coral reefs are formed of many millions of cnidarians and are home to staggering biodiversity. Jellyfish are important predators in the open ocean food web, but they serve as food for many other species as well. Sea anemones fulfil a similar role but in the shallows, also serving as hiding places for clownfish. Thus, this unique and abundant group of creatures is integral to the function of many marine communities, from the open ocean to coasts and the benthic zone of the deep sea.
